Dr Z.S. Meharwal is the Executive Director and head of the Department for Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplantation, and VAD Program, at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, one of the leading hospital networks in India. He has nearly 35 years of experience having performed more than 30,000 cases, including complex cardiovascular and Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) cases. As Program Director DNB Cardiothoracic Surgery, Meharwal has performed various pioneering cardiac surgeries in India and is responsible for mentoring several of today’s practicing cardiac surgeons the world over. In addition to that Dr. Meharwal, engages with his facilitative work as faculty in various national and international conferences and writes frequently in peer-reviewed journals. He has earned many awards for his contribution to cardiac surgery including the President's Award by Dr. A.P.J. Kalam at the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Meeting in 2002, Aditya Samman by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2005 and Limca Book of Records recognition. He has also met actively in other professional societies like the Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons of India, the Cardiological Society of India, the Asian Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, and the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery.
