Dr. Randhir Sud, Chairman of the Department of Digestive & Hepatobiliary Sciences, is a renowned gastroenterologist known for pioneering therapeutic GI endoscopy and initiating the GI oncology program in India. In recognition of his contributions to gastroenterology, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2008. Dr. Sud's expertise encompasses gastrointestinal endoscopy, gastrointestinal cancers, and hepatic diseases. His career began with a junior residency at AIIMS, New Delhi, in January 1979, followed by a senior residency from 1982 to 1984. He then became a consultant in gastroenterology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, in 1985. With six years of teaching experience at AIIMS, Dr. Sud is an approved faculty and examiner for the Diplomate National Board Examination in Gastroenterology. He has also served as a visiting professor at Harvard Medical School in 1999, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2005. Dr. Sud earned his MBBS from Government Medical College in Amritsar in 1977, followed by an MD in Medicine in 1981 and a DM in Gastroenterology in 1983 from AIIMS, where he received numerous accolades for his academic performance.
